Discovering the freedom of long distance bike travel

Following the arrival of COVID in 2020 which necessitated living indoors for 5 months in a 30 square metre flat with no balcony (and a carbon monoxide leak) in Barcelona, I checked in my overtime and took off on my bike with camping stove and tent to cycle along the Mediterranean. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and I had barely prepared – all I had was my second-hand bike and a determined need to get outside and BREATHE. Over the next two months, I cycled more than 3000 kms – some days doing 150kms, others only 20 – where along the way I met wonderful people, pushed myself up hills, soared down them on the other side, gathered more stories, got very fit and restored my energy and enthusiasm for life. This trip has since led to other journeys through Spain, France and Ireland, where there are more planned to come. Here are some some images of my virgin journey.
